Two-vehicle crash in Brownsville leaves 1 dead, 1 in critical condition

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers continue to investigate a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred near the Port of Brownsville Shrimp Basin area on Monday.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Gary Dylan Sturgill of Brownsville.

Investigators say a man driving a Jeep Liberty westbound on State Highway 48 veered into the path of a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound when one of the Jeep Liberty’s tires blew out.

The driver of the Jeep Liberty was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A passenger of the Jeep Liberty is listed in critical condition, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
